Nokia E71 review and tech specs

Nokia E71
is the first Nokia phone with 3G capabilities and a qwerty keyboard. The phones aims business sector and provide most of the necessary applications suited for the purpose. The basic features of E71 includes A-GPS, a 3.2 megapixel camera, WiFi, A2DP Bluetooth, a microSD slot and 110MB of built-in memory. It is loaded with s60(Symbian series 60) platform which makes it 3rd party applicationfriendly.

Like the E61 and E61i before it, the E71 houses a single speaker in the upper left of the phone. Nokia has certainly learnt something regarding multimedia, this phone suggests. It seems louder than the E61 and it’s pretty clear for ringtones and alert sounds.

The approximate price of Nokia E71 ranges from US$350 to US$450

Mobile Radiation, facts and myths

Are you worried due to the recent reports on ill effects of mobile phone radiations?

Today, wherever we look, the hot topics for discussion is how harmful mobiles and radiation from it can be for one's health. From skin problems to hearing disorders, to psychological to carcinogenic effects, everything is being attributed to the cellphones. So much is the hype that it seems that mobile phone is actually the anti-god prophesied in our holy scriptures that has the potential to bring about the end of humanity! So much for the drama, but no one knows what the effects of the mobiles are. In this twilight zone, it is very important for the users to dismiss the myths surrounding this very important device in their lives, and know the truths, the real truths about mobile radiation hazards!

The Science Behind SAR

There is no denying of the fact that like any other wireless or digital device, mobile phones also emit radiations and so do the operator's base stations.
These base stations are multichannel two-way radios of lower power. Similarly, a mobile is a single-channel low power two-way radio. When we talk on the mobile it gets connected to the nearest base station and from there the signal goes further via the regular land-line system.

Since they are radios, they produce radio frequency (RF) radiations and people who use mobile phones get exposed to these. The radiation is measured as SAR (Specific Absorption Rate), which indicates the radiation absorbed by a human body while using a mobile phone. The higher the SAR value, the more radiation a person absorbs while using a mobile phone. On the other hand the base station emissions do not have much effect unless one is directly under it. But the point to be taken into consideration here is that generally, these RF-exposure levels and the corresponding SAR levels are considerably low.

The International Commission on Non- Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP), the body that has created guidelines for limiting the exposure to such radiations has mentioned in the same guidelines that "There is insufficient information on the biological and health effects of EMF exposure of human populations."

Myth Busting

So are these scientific studies all false? No, they are not. The scientific studies carried out by various renowned and credible organisations have formed the basis of safety standards and minimum acceptable emission levels. But there are certain inherent differences in the way these studies have been conducted which has led to negative findings. Arun Goyal, adviser regulatory affairs, ICA, avers, "The RF emissions from phones is less than one Watt, whereas most of the studies that have been carried out so far have used emissions of more than four Watts for a prolonged period of time and have been carried out on mice! This led to certain negative effects and a temperature rise of five degree Celsius." Therefore the conditions in which the test were performed were really very different from the conditions in which average users uses their mobiles. Moreover, these are non-ionizing radiations, which are totally harmless and in no way effect the DNA structure of any person using a mobile phone or cause cancer. The ICNIRP report says, "There has been considerable recent interest in the possible carcinogenic effects of exposure to microwave fields. Briefly, there are many reports suggesting that microwave fields are not mutagenic, and exposure to these fields is therefore unlikely to initiate carcinogenesis."

Nokia N96, 16GB with price

The all new Nokia N96 comes with 16 GB internal memory and extendable slot for more.! Great, is'nt it? What more , the unique dual slider interface elegantly suits for the placed music keys, 2.8 inch display provides high quality video streaming capabilities.

The system also supports LIVE TV with the DVB-H technology and Like N95, this is also embedded with a 5 megs camera with Carl Zeiss optics. Highly highped advanced mobile search technology is yet another feature to quote. But the Carl Zeiss optics seems not of much use because of the embedded Led flash.

Powered by S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 wich is not yet released, the Nokia N96 will be a all new experience. yet, the leaked pictures suggest that this wil not have a lens protection, which is disappointing. The Speakers are on the corners of the right side of the device- top and bottom. More than to N95, the new N96 looks similar to N81 or N82 ie, this is not a natural sucessor of N95.

Nokia 5610 XpressMusic review

All new Nokia 5610 XpressMusic Quad band comes with a scratch resistant window and a Music Slider Key for sliding user to interface access music. But the most striking benefit will be for me, it has an enhanced support for accessing WEB 2.0 content. That means accessing orkut/ facebook will be easier ever.Blogging too. The Nokia 5610 XpressMusic also features a dedicated music chip, a feature of all phones of the series.Other major features are EDGE, 3G and a 3.2 megs camera.

Baterry life is 13.3 days standby, 22 hrs music playback and 6 hrs talk time. Awesome right? And to add to this, a Micro SD support of upto 4GB is provided. But the 512 MicroSD given with the pack is not suficient at all. The phone memory is 2 MB inbuilt.

  • Length: 98.5 mm
  • Width: 48.5 mm

A mobile Blog

Mobile phones had always been the craze of gen next. Before selecting a new cellphone there are lots of factors to be considered. When one of my friend asks me which mobile to buy, I will in return ask two questions.

1) Whats your need with the newly bought cellphone?
2) How much can spend for this cool brand gadget?

Once these both questions are answered, the best cellphone suited for you is ready.

The new generation is focusing more on entertainment phones. They want a mobile gadget which provides them with enough of multimedia experience in it. Two derived classes of this segment either focuses on music phones or camera phones. Others can be broadly classified as business phone segment and the entry level ones.
Its hard to determine which company rules which segment. Yet, as a general rule, Sony Ericsson phones are generally better in multimedia experience with their MegaBass and cam quality and Nokia stands first when usability is the prime factor. We will discuss more in this blog.
